ROTARY CLUBS OF
FARNHAM & THE ENVIRONMENT

Rotary in Farnham is
committed to working in partnership with Farnham Town Council and others in supporting
the environment We work with individuals and
organisations to provide information for others in the community, bringing
awareness to the environmental initiatives we support.
As David Attenborough has said:
"It's surely our responsibility to do everything within our
power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life
on Earth."
Below is information on our
themes for the year. Some of our activities you will be able to join in
and others you can support through your own initiatives.
Single-use Plastics: Following the accreditation of Farnham as a ‘plastic free town’ and
our part in it we will continue to support the reduction of plastic wherever
and however we can.
Waste and recycling with a focus on the three
key actions to minimize waste, conserve resources and protect the environment
- "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”
Biodiversity which will involve a number of initiatives, one of which is
encouragement of swift nest boxes in strategic places in the town.
Community We plan to run a number of events on the two themes above eg films, talks, walks with
involvement of key organisations as well as individuals. If this is successful
it might be that networks on particular issues/areas of focus are developed. For each month of the year we will pick a
national/international week and aim to get our local community involved in it.
Theme for January - RSPB Big
Bird Watch
Big Garden Birdwatch is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of nature lovers take part, helping to build
a picture of how garden birds are faring.
To participate you just need
to put aside an hour between 23 and 25 January and go to the RSPB website
https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/big-garden-birdwatch
to get your free guide
and stock up on supplies, with 20% off and free delivery on food and feeders at
the RSPB shop. And then:
1. Spend an hour watching the
birds in your patch, between 23 and 25 January, and record the birds
that land.
2. Tell us what you saw (even if
that’s nothing at all)! You can submit your results online or by post.
Our Rotary team will be
recording our garden birds in a number of different locations in Farnham. Watch out for our results.
